Job Description:
Working under the direction of the Manager or Senior Team Lead,
will be responsible for collecting and documenting user
requirements, facilitating user interface design, advocating for
users in the scientific and engineering industries throughout the
development process, and testing and evaluating user interfaces;
contributing throughout the product development life cycle to new
products and features, as well as enhancing legacy products;
performing user-centered design activities related to MathWorks
products and web applications; working collaboratively with the
development team to follow a user-centered design approach and to
brainstorm and design innovative solutions to complex problems;
making recommendations about which usability methods to use to
answer questions about users and design directions based on
projects needs, goals and constraints; collaborating on low, medium
and high fidelity prototypes; using qualitative and quantitative
research methods to solve complex problems; planning, scoping, and
conducting generative and evaluative user research with highly
technical users; understanding users workflows, identifying pain
points, and developing user profiles; running usability tests and
performing other usability assessments; working with
cross-functional teams in an Agile environment; helping teams
translate user feedback into actionable insights and providing
input for design decisions based on those insights; and
contributing to requirements and design documents. Education and Experience: Masters degree or higher (or foreign education equivalent) in
Human Factors, Human Factors in Information Design, Cognitive
Science, Engineering, or Information Management and Systems and no
experience. OR Bachelors degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Human
Factors, Human Factors in Information Design, Cognitive Science,
Engineering, or Information Management and Systems and five (5)
years of experience in job offered or five (5) years of experience
in user-centered research and design. Special Requirements: Demonstrated expertise using qualitative and quantitative
research methods to analyze user behavior, identify user pains,
benchmark web-based products in industry and evaluate web-based
product features to impact strategy and product direction. Demonstrated expertise performing usability assessments,
including performing usability testing, conducting heuristic
evaluations and customer interviews, and designing surveys to
understand user behavior and influence design decisions; and
analyzing user data and representing key information from datasets
into visualizations using Tableau according to data visualization
best practices. Demonstrated expertise interpreting and analyzing user feedback
using UX method of affinitization, evolving user workflows, and
providing design recommendations to software developers; performing
high and low fidelity prototyping to inform design decisions that
address user requirements using Adobe xD or Balsamiq according to
UI design principles; and developing UX deliverables including
personas, journey maps, user roles and goals to enable a
user-centered development process. Demonstrated expertise programming in MATLAB, Python or R; and
participating in the software development life cycle (SDLC),
including requirements gathering, design, and quality assurance
